Ergonomics for Musicians

This event is 4:00 pm EASTERN TIME (3:00 pm Central, 2:00 pm Mountain, 1:00 pm Pacific).

Take a deeper dive into how to prevent common instrumental musicians’ injuries. You will receive also a brief personal assessment on your posture and playing position.

In this interactive webinar, come prepared to practice various physical exercises. Have ready your typical setup when providing live therapeutic music, such as chair or stool, music stand and how you position them while playing.

Along with the webinar you will receive handouts, including a synopsis of common injuries of instrumentalists and the webinar recording for review after the class.

Facilitated by Amy Lauback, CMP, MHTP Module 1 Teacher, and Certified Music Ergonomist. The information in this webinar is specific to instrumental musicians. This webinar is not recommended for acapella vocalists.

Learn the importance of warming up and stretching for musicians

  • Practice basic stretching and strengthening exercises

  • Learn appropriate posture and playing position

  • Receive brief personal assessment on posture and playing position*

*Participants must have the chair they use to play, stand, working camera, and microphone for personal assessments

Amy Lauback, CMP, and Certified Music Ergonomist graduated with an Applied Studies in flute and theory/composition dual major from Ohio Northern University in 2014. She is a 2017 graduate of MHTP and has worked in hospice and several hospitals in Michigan and Ohio. In addition to flute, she is also certified on violin, recorder, and harp. 

CMPs and graduates of other therapeutic music training programs earn 2 CEUs. Cost is $45.

Cancellation: If MHTP cancels this webinar because of too few participants or any other reason, all participants will be notified via email and will receive a full refund. If a participant must cancel, that participant should immediately notify MHTP. If a participant cancels more than one week in advance of the first workshop, a full refund will be given. If a participant cancels less than one week in advance (after 4:00pm EST April 21), no refund will be given. No refunds if you are not a CMP or graduate of another therapeutic program.
